E-Biofuels building Indiana plant

By Dave Nilles | November 10, 2006
Construction has started on another Indiana biodiesel plant. E-Biofuels LLC, which held a ceremonial groundbreaking Nov. 1, is conducting site work on what will eventually be a 25 MMgy biodiesel facility, according to CEO Chad Ducey.

Brothers Craig and Chad Ducey are managing partners of the company. In 2004, the pair created Werks Management, an engineering services company. Chad Ducey said the idea for a biodiesel plant came after working on the permitting and environmental work for Integrity Biofuels, a 10 MMgy biodiesel plant near Morristown, Ind. "We were able to work with one of the first biodiesel facilities in Indiana, which really prompted our interest in this great industry," he said.

Construction on the Middletown plant began in mid-November, according to Ducey. He said he expects foundation work to begin soon. Ryerson Construction is building the facility using e-Biofuels' in-house design.

The plant, which is located on a six-acre site on the west edge of Middletown, is expected to start-up in April 2007. The process and storage tanks will be housed in a 28,000-square foot steel building, Ducey said.

E-Biofuels will market its own biodiesel, Ducey said. The facility will start-up with soy oil as feedstock but other sources may be used once operational.

Indiana had two biodiesel plants begin producing fuel this year. Evergreen Renewables is a 5 MMgy plant located in Hammond. Integrity Biofuels is a 10 MMgy plant near Morristown. The state will also be home to one of the nation's largest biodiesel plants when Louis Dreyfus Agricultural Industries LLC completes its 80 MMgy plant in Claypool. That project is slated to start-up in October 2007.
