Clear your calendar for a free, informative webinar produced and hosted by Biodiesel Magazine on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. Central Time, titled, “Biodiesel Technology: Enhancing Profit through New Processing Techniques,” sponsored by Methes Energies. We will feature four speakers who will detail various new, advanced methods of biodiesel production to save your operation time and money.

Featured on the webinar is Nicholas Ng, president of Methes Energies Canada Inc., who will discuss Methes Energies’ new pretreatment process for high free fatty acid (FFA) biodiesel feedstocks, including corn oil. In his presentation, Ng will talk about how this new process can convert high FFA oils into biodiesel, converts crude oilseeds without the need to degum, removes all the waxes and the red color in corn oil, and substantially reduces the overall catalyst cost at a typical biodiesel facility. With a conversion time as low as 15 minutes to one hour, this new process uses a liquid catalyst that is noncorrosive and easy to handle compared to traditional sulfuric acid.

“We are very excited to be presenting our new process on Aug. 28,” says John Loewen, the chief operating officer of Methes Energies. “Our team has been working on this for a long time and we know of many in the industry that could benefit from this right away. There are several producers that cannot deal with some of the feedstocks out there such as corn oil, which is becoming more and more available thanks to so many ethanol plants now extracting that oil before making ethanol. In fact, even facilities running on soybean and canola oil should take a look at this new process as it will save them money in the long run. We believe that this process is a game-changer in light of all the benefits that we are looking forward to share on the webinar.”

In addition to Ng, P.M. Nielsen with Novozymes is scheduled to present on enzymatic biodiesel production. Nielsen will talk about Novozymes’ extensive R&D work over the past several years leading to commercial production at Blue Sun Biodiesel in Missouri and Viesel Fuel in Florida, and the advantages enzymatic production has over conventional processing.

Also scheduled to present on the webinar is retired Texas Tech professor Uzi Mann, who will discuss his patented techniques involving methanol atomization and using biodiesel as a cosolvent—methods featured in a January/February 2014 Biodiesel Magazine article titled “Elegant Engineering.”

Finally, Will Smith, principal at Springhouse Consulting and former engineering manager with Pacific Biodiesel Technologies, will discuss various biodiesel processing methods, providing comparisons, high-level cost-benefit analyses and operating techniques that can help save biodiesel producers time and money. Smith has years of experience in the industry and was integral to many of the innovations employed at Pacific Biodiesel, particularly in the company’s new Big Island Biodiesel plant, which features zero-waste technology.

I will be moderating the webinar. We look forward to having you join us. To register for free, click here
