6th annual Calif. Biodiesel Conference, 'Thrive,' set for March 1

By The California Biodiesel Alliance | January 24, 2017

The California Biodiesel Alliance presents its sixth annual California Biodiesel Conference, highlighting how businesses can thrive in the state’s flourishing but complex California biodiesel market, March 1 at the Capitol Ballroom in downtown Sacramento.

Biodiesel has been at the epicenter of the state’s world-leading carbon transportation policy, the low carbon fuel standard (LCFS), since its inception. And now, an even greater boost is coming to the biofuels market with the passage of SB 32, which requires GHG emissions reductions of 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.

On the heels of the 2015 readoption of the LCFS, which requires a new CA-GREET 2.0 calculator, the first panel, entitled, “Biodiesel’s Carbon Intensity: How Low Can It Go?” will bring the highest level experts to discuss the role of feedstocks and other factors in carbon intensity (CI) scoring, as well as sustainability and indirect land use change (iLUC) issues and the planned mandatory LCFS enforcement rulemaking.

The second panel, “California's Biofuels Policies: Moving Forward,” will present updates on the array of unique and complex policy issues by CBA’s lobbyist and high-level state agency staff from the California Air Resources Board, the California Energy Commission and the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

“Thriving in the California Biodiesel Market: Risk Management Strategies” will be the focus of industry expert presentations on feedstock and physical product hedging as well as renewable identification number (RIN) and LCFS credit management.

CBA is honored to present keynote speaker Dean Florez, California Air Resources Board member, and featured speaker Donnell Rehagen, the new CEO of the National Biodiesel Board, who will update attendees on key federal policy issues.

State and regional experts are tapped to speak on a panel entitled “SB 32: A New Era for California Markets and Beyond,” which will cover exciting developments in Canada and Oregon.

Finally, benefitting from the breadth of the day’s discussions, attendees will have the rare chance to talk with the “Industry’s Best Biodiesel Writers in Open Dialogue.”

Conference attendees are encouraged to attend an open CBA member meeting after the conference from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a discussion of current and future organizational issues and policy directions.

CBA is a nonprofit biodiesel industry trade association representing a diverse range of businesses and stakeholders, including all of the state’s major biodiesel producers. CBA endeavors to increase awareness about biodiesel as California’s leading and widely available advanced biofuel that delivers significant economic, environmental, and energy diversity benefits throughout the state. Since 2006, CBA has worked both in-state and at the national level to address regulatory, policy and legislative issues to enable a growing market for biodiesel in California.
