Biodiesel helps fuel Tow Trucks for Tots in Illinois

The Illinois Soybean Association checkoff program is partnering with Tow Trucks for Tots to help bring toys to needy children, while educating tow truck drivers on the benefits of B20 biodiesel fuel.
During the annual Tow Trucks for Tots event on Nov. 12, towing companies from throughout Illinois and beyond will collect toys and deliver them to the Chicago area. This year’s event is expected to attract more than 300 tow truck drivers. As part of the ISA sponsorship of the event, each driver will receive a voucher to fuel their truck with a biodiesel blend of up to 20 percent.

“This partnership benefits children two ways,” said Rebeca Richardson, ISA biodiesel lead. “In addition to getting new toys for the holidays, children benefit from healthier air because of biodiesel’s reduced particulate emissions compared with petroleum diesel. And it is a great opportunity for the soybean checkoff program to educate tow truck drivers on the economic, performance and environmental benefits of B20 biodiesel.”
Participants will line up at the Hollywood Casino in Rockdale, Illinois, then proceed on a 42-mile route to Toyota Park in Bridgeview, where they will unload the toys. With 324 participants in 2016, Tow Trucks for Tots currently holds the world record for largest tow truck parade.

The Illinois Soybean Association checkoff and membership programs represent more than 43,000 soybean farmers in Illinois. The checkoff funds market development, soybean production and profitability research, issues analysis, communications and education. Membership and advocacy efforts support Illinois soybean farmer interests in local areas, Springfield and Washington, D.C., through the Illinois Soybean Growers.
