A wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Biodiesel, Maiden Hawaii Naturals LLC, has introduced Kuleana Sunscreen, a natural, reef-safe product.

Made from plant-based oils, minerals and other natural ingredients—including the company’s locally made macadamia and sunflower oils—the sunscreen contains no ecologically harmful chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate, which were recently banned by Hawaii’s new sunscreen law.

In addition, Kuleana Sunscreen will support Hawaii-based environmental organizations through its membership in the global organization, 1% for the Planet.

Pacific Biodiesel Co-Founder and Vice President Kelly King was recently a guest speaker at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Sierra Club of Hawaii where she announced that Kuleana Sunscreen, through its membership of 1% for the Planet, will support Sierra Club of Hawaii during its 50th anniversary year, beginning this month.

“A few years ago when I saw the chemical sunscreen ban fail at the state legislature, I vowed to create a local sunscreen alternative,” King said. “I believed then and I still believe today that if we can educate people and provide them with better options, we can affect change quicker.”
