The South Carolina Biomass Council held an award ceremony Nov. 15 on the grounds of its 2018 Biomass Project of the Year Award recipient, Green Energy Biofuel, in Warrenville, South Carolina. Green Energy Biofuel won the award in recognition of its new GEB3 plant, an idled 40 MMgy biodiesel plant that was acquired and retooled by Green Energy Biofuel. According to co-owner Bio Joe Renwick, while the new facility will be able to produce biodiesel, it will mainly process raw used cooking oil into high-quality feedstock for distribution to biodiesel producers along the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The ceremony began with an introduction by SCBC chairman Crad Jaynes, who explained the purpose for and importance of the SCBC, which is to develop a long-term strategy to make biomass energy a feasible alternative to traditional power generation and transportation fuels. After attendee introductions, including SCBC’s 2018 Advocate of the Year Award winner Tim Adams of the South Carolina Forestry Commission, State Rep. Ronnie Young, and Green Energy Biofuel’s leadership, Renwick shared the journey his company took in getting to acquire the new facility. Afterwards, Jaynes formally presented Adams, Renwick and his wife and Green Energy Biofuel co-owner Beth with their respective awards. A tour of the GEB3 facility followed. Catering was provided by the Red Shed Diner.

“Green Energy Biofuel would like to thank all those that attended today’s awards ceremony,” Renwick said. “We would also like to formally thank the South Carolina Biomass Council for the award. Green Energy Biofuel is extremely proud and blessed to have our role in the biomass industry. We have always believed in the importance of sustainability and pride ourselves on our dedication and perseverance in the industry. We could not have achieved all that we have without the support of our friends, family and organizations like the South Carolina Biomass Council. Thanks to all of you, we can still be makin’ fuel baby!”
