It's Time to Plan for the 2009 National Biodiesel Conference & Expo

Over the years, many cities have warmly welcomed the National Biodiesel Conference & Expo. Last February, more than 3,800 people joined us in Orlando for the biggest, most comprehensive biodiesel event in the nation. No city to date, however, has been as welcoming-and as relevant-to our industry as San Francisco. The Golden Gate city will host the 2009 conference Feb. 1-4.

San Francisco has a rich history of biodiesel support. For several years, city departments and agencies, including the San Francisco Airport, Department of Public Works, Municipal Transportation Agency buses and the San Francisco Zoo, have successfully used B20. Then in 2006, Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an executive directive designed to increase the pace of municipal biodiesel use. Today it is the largest U.S. city to implement B20 in virtually all city vehicles, from street sweepers to fire trucks. At the 2007 National Biodiesel Conference & Expo, the National Biodiesel Board presented Brie Mathews and Mike Ferry of the San Francisco Fire Department with the Inspiration Award for a pilot project that sparked the citywide use of the fuel.

Look for San Francisco leaders to appear at our conference and take part in some of the many educational sessions we will offer. For 2009, we have chosen the theme of "Leading Change Now." In addition to featuring prominent biodiesel users, the conference will have a heightened emphasis on feedstock development-a top issue within our industry.

Petroleum infrastructure, renewable fuels standard implementation, and ensuring biodiesel stays on a sustainable path all promise to be hot button issues in our conference education. There is no place better suited to lead change in our industry than at the annual conference, where thousands of industry leaders, movers and supporters gather to network and learn.

The 2009 conference takes place in the very heart of downtown San Francisco at the Moscone Convention Center. Our host hotel is the stunningly renovated Marriott San Francisco, just moments by foot away from the convention center. This year's golf tournament takes place at Harding Park-not only one of the oldest golf clubs in San Francisco, but home to the 2009 President's Cup. As is our tradition, we will kick off this year's conference with a Super Bowl party-a welcome reception like no other.

I invite you to visit www.biodiesel.org/conference to learn more about registering. We'll see you in San Francisco.
