Expanding BioTrucker Fuel Card Program benefits truckers, motorsports

By | August 19, 2009
In July, the National Biodiesel Board welcomed the Gas City station in Romeoville, Ill., as the newest stop in the BioTrucker network of truck stops selling environmentally friendly, domestically produced biodiesel blends. BioTrucker is a network of more than 5,000 fueling locations now accepting the BioTrucker Fuel Card, offering trucking companies and owner-operators the benefit of purchasing fuel without a transaction fee, and at cash prices. More than 800 of those in-network stations now sell biodiesel blends nationwide. Truckers can visit the BioTrucker website at www.biotrucker.com to easily find stations carrying biodiesel blends, with state or route search functions.

To celebrate its introduction into the BioTrucker network, Gas City offered customers a savings of 50 cents off per gallon on the purchase of B11 biodiesel blend during a BioTrucker promotion there on July 23rd. More than 50 semi-trucks, pickup trucks and diesel cars lined up at the truck stop to buy biodiesel at a discount during the two-hour promotion. The B11 blend, common in Illinois, normally sells for about the same price as regular diesel fuel. Gas City plans to add more of its stores to the BioTrucker network in the near future.

First to benefit from the biodiesel fuel savings at Gas City was the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup racing series transport team, fueling up its trucks en route to the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Ill., for the Jetta TDI Cup race that weekend. Volkswagen of America is using biodiesel blends to power its entire 2009 Jetta TDI Cup racing series, from the race cars running on a Syndiesel B5 biodiesel blend, to the transport trucks and generators running on up to B20 blends. NBB member Hyperfuels, a division of Gulf Hydrocarbon Partners, is the official fuel sponsor for the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup race series.
