The United Soybean Board recently announced it plans to deliver funds through its Green Ribbon Fairs reimbursement program encouraging fairs across the country to promote the use of soy-based products, including biodiesel. The funding program, now in its second year, allows town, country, state and regional fairs to compete to be reimbursed for using and promoting soy-based products on their fairgrounds year-round and during fairs.

Applications for the Green Ribbon Fairs program are being accepted until Feb. 6. According to the USB, participants in the program will be notified in March.

“Partnering with other groups helps us to tell a new audience about the sustainability of soy products,” says Geno Lowe, a soybean farmer from Hebron, Md., and USB farmer-director. “What’s great about the Green Ribbon Fairs program is we can reach both rural and urban audiences.”

The USB also recently announced the participants in the 2012 biodiesel and Bioheat communications program, which aims to help cities spread the word about biodiesel. The soybean checkoff has signed on to partner with nine U.S. DOE Clean Cities coalitions across the nation to support promotion and education initiatives, including radio public service announcements, outdoor advertising, informational workshops and promotional events.  For the 2012 program, the checkoff farmer-leaders have committed nearly $200,000 to the initiative.
