Minnesota Soybean Processors is the first biodiesel plant to pass Genscape’s RIN Integrity Network audit. The Brewster, Minn.-based biodiesel producer informed Biodiesel Magazine of the news.
The passing of its audit gives MnSP the first green icon on Genscape’s dashboard map of biodiesel producers, making it easy for subscribed obligated parties to spot the facility as one that has passed the rigorous audit process, providing due diligence for RIN purchases. The RIN Integrity Network program was established by Genscape through support from the National Biodiesel Board to provide oil companies assurance that RINs originating from a registered biodiesel plant are valid, a measure undertaken to eliminate isolated but damaging cases of fraud in the marketplace.

The comprehensive audit includes verification of the plant’s last attestation, performed by Christianson & Associates, including the firm’s last visit to the plant on June 6. The audit confirms facility compliance information such as plant infrastructure, production process documents, and that MSP’s monthly RIN generation reports matched other fuel production and process rate reports. Independently collected biodiesel samples from the facility also passed ASTM tests.
Also, the plant completed the required RIN education course, one of several elements that were introduced to the Genscape program when it incorporated beneficial aspects of Lee Enterprises’ RIN 9000 verification program.

The facility operations segment of the audit includes review of the nameplate capacity (30 MMgy), whether there was biodiesel present in the tanks during the audit (there was), verification that the process rate was consistent with the plant’s production capacity, electrical and natural gas use, feedstock usage along with biodiesel and coproduct sales, and much more.
Another layer of the audit includes checking to make sure RINs generated do not exceed physical biodiesel production, and the product transfer documents for all RIN activities during the audit period are confirmed.
