BBA introduces nonfood biodiesel chemistry education kit

By Ron Kotrba | December 26, 2012

The India-based Biodiesel Business Academy, whose stated priority is to contribute to the transition to a sustainable society through social, economic and environmental development, has come out with a biodiesel chemistry education kit based on a nonfood oils platform.

According to the BBA, the Nonfood Biodiesel Science Kit, developed by BBA scientists and education professionals, is an engaging way for science classes to apply the basic skills and principles of chemistry, and a great way to introduce nonfood biodiesel—and renewable fuels in general—to students through hands-on experiments that takes complex scientific processes and breaks them down into easy-to-understand lessons.

The kit includes nine lesson plans and hands-on experiments along with the necessary equipment to perform experiments. Lesson topics include the diesel engine and the development of biodiesel, the physical and chemical properties of nonfood oil and esters and more. The kit helps illustrate real-world chemistry applications to students as well as the growing importance of the alternative fuel industry.

why Biodiesel is not taking off in India? Jatropha seems to be a colossal failure. Biodiesel is best suited for agriclture water pumping which forms 25% electricity consumed in India. Instead of (or , in addition to) planning mega power plants , if the Nation focusses on rural agriculture power based on local resources India will save, mmmm, may be in billion dollars!
