CEC awards Buster Biofuels $2.64M for San Diego biodiesel plant
The California Energy Commission announced it is awarding Buster Biofuels $2.64 million from the CEC’s alternative and renewable fuel and vehicle technology program to build a biodiesel plant in San Diego scaled at nearly 5 MMgy. The commission stated the funds would be used to convert a 7,300-square-foot industrial warehouse building into a biodiesel manufacturing and fueling facility. Buster Biofuels is a San Diego-based grease collector and biodiesel fuel distributor.
The CEC’s alternative and renewable fuel and vehicle technology program is slated to invest approximately $90 million during this fiscal year to develop new transportation technologies, as well as alternative and renewable fuels. It is paid for through surcharges on vehicle and boating registrations, and smog check and license plate fees.

1Congratulations to Buster Biofuels!! They've taken the first step to getting bio directly to the pump again where we consumers need it. Hopefully their plan is to go B99.9999 and advance that blend back into the forefront where it was before the regulators killed it at the pump. I believe B20 to be somewhat of an insult, if you will, and I will look forward to another option. Unfortunately San Diego's only B99 producer recently closed their doors to it's small cadre of retail customers leaving us with a ludicrous "mail order" bio distributor with a lengthy supply chain as our only option. Again....good luck to Buster and his group!

2Buster is the way of the future, locally owned, smaller facilities. Congratulations to the CEC for seeing that sooner rather than later.
