Aurora Biofuels closes finance round

Alameda, Calif.-based Aurora Biofuels secured $20 million through a second round of funding led by existing investor Oak Investment Partners. The company intends to use the funds to expand its field of operations in open-pond algae aquaculture technology, and to increase its effort in optimizing the production cycle of growing, harvesting and extracting microalgae for biodiesel production.READ MORE

Petrotec begins production at second facility

German biodiesel producer Petrotec AG has announced the start of production at its facility in Emden, Germany. The 30 MMgy plant, located in Emden's seaport, is accompanied by a refinery, storage tanks, a laboratory, and a load/unload unit for both inland and oceangoing vessels.READ MORE Methes

EIA proposes mandatory biodiesel survey

The U.S. Energy Information Administration is proposing a mandatory biodiesel survey in response to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which directed the administration to collect information on biofuels. The survey would collect data on biodiesel and coproduct production, sales and tax credits, and feedstocks.READ MORE

MSU receives EPA funding for biodiesel research

Region 4 of the U.S. EPA has awarded $200,000 to Mississippi State University for research to transform wastewater treatment plant sludge into biodiesel. The funds from the grant are intended to build upon the research that MSU is conducting to increase the amount of oil that could be generated from wastewater treatment facilities.READ MORE

Allegro agrees to sell Louisiana plant

Los Angeles-based biodiesel producer Allegro Biodiesel Corp. has entered into a definitive agreement with Consolidated Energy Holdings LLC, in which CEH will purchase Allegro Biodiesel's wholly owned subsidiary Vanguard Synfuels LLC. The subsidiary holds all of Allegro's biodiesel operations and related assets, including its 15 MMgy biodiesel plant currently operating in Pollock, La.READ MORE

Syntroleum, Tyson partnership receives $100 million

Dynamic Fuels LLC received final approval from the Louisiana State Bond Commission for $100 million in tax-exempt Gulf Opportunity Bonds to fund the building of a renewable diesel plant in Geismar, La. Dynamic Fuels is a joint venture formed between Tyson Foods Inc. and Syntroleum Corp. to convert low-grade inedible fats and greases into renewable synthetic diesel, jet and military fuel.READ MORE

EU launches investigation of U.S. biodiesel industry

On June 13, the European Union launched antisubsidy and antidumping investigations on U.S. biodiesel imports after a European Commission examination of complaints filed April 29 by the European Biodiesel Board found sufficient evidence of the U.S. biodiesel sector garnering subsidies and dumping biodiesel in the European market. The complaints stated that these factors have adversely affected the European biodiesel industry.READ MORE

Biodiesel to aid Parkersburg tornado recovery

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association and plants in the Ames, Iowa-based Renewable Energy Group Inc. network announced June 13 a $10,000 donation toward the purchase of biodiesel to aid the recovery effort of the town of Parkersburg, Iowa, and the surrounding communities. An F5 tornado ravaged the town Memorial Day weekend, leaving a path of devastation behind.READ MORE

Pacific Biodiesel opens quality assurance lab

Pacific Biodiesel Technologies Inc. has opened a new quality assurance laboratory in Salem, Ore. State-of-the-art equipment will allow "PB Tech" to provide ASTM D 6751 certificates of analysis and support a number of additional tests to evaluate biodiesel quality.READ MORE

ASTM approves new biodiesel blend standards

New ASTM standards for biodiesel were approved June 19 at an ASTM International meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia. The changes will take effect within three to five months once the final standards are published.READ MORE
