EIA: Biodiesel production at 1.817 billion gallons in 2020


U.S. biodiesel production reached 159 million gallons in December 2020, up from 151 million gallons the previous month and up from 133 million gallons in December 2019, according to data released by the U.S. EIA on Feb. 26.

Marathon proceeds with renewables conversion at Martinez refinery


Marathon Petroleum Corp. announced on March 2 that is proceeding with plans to produce renewable diesel at its petroleum refinery in Martinez, California. Once the conversion is complete, the facility will produce 730 MMgy of renewable fuels.

The USDA maintained its 2020-’21 forecast for soybean oil use in biodiesel in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released March 9. U.S. soybean supply and use projections were also mostly unchanged.

Washington House passes bill to establish Clean Fuels Standard


The Washington House of Representatives on Feb. 27 voted 52 to 46 to pass H.B. 1091, a bill that aims to establish a state-wide Clean Fuels Standard. The legislation is currently pending in the Washington Senate.
