Advanced biofuel project picks up steam in Wisconsin

The pace is picking up for Flambeau River BioFuel LLC's project to convert Wisconsin wood into biomass-based diesel. Honeywell Process Solutions announced Monday that it has been selected to supply and integrate the automation equipment for what it called the largest second-generation green diesel plant in the United States. The next big step is expected to happen next week with the commissioning of the pilot facility.READ MORE

Greenshift receives new corn oil extraction patent, sues Westfalia

Corn oil extraction could be the very cement that bridges different sectors of renewable fuels production. For the biodiesel industry, corn oil extracted from ethanol plant stillage is a feedstock largely underutilized and unlike algae, pennycress and other feedstocks being investigated, it's available now. GreenShift Corp., with offices in New York and Atlanta, recently received a second patent for its corn oil extraction technique, "Method of Freeing the Bound Oil Present in Whole Stillage and Thin Stillage."READ MORE

Brazil to increase biodiesel blend ahead of schedule

Beginning in January, Brazil's diesel fuel vehicles will be required to run on B5. Escalating quickly, the country has increased the nationally mandated blend ratio from B2 to B5 early last year. The increase to 5 percent was originally scheduled for 2013.READ MORE
