NBB reelects farmer-chairman during time of change for biodiesel

For a third year, the biodiesel industry has chosen farmer-leader Darryl Brinkmann to lead the National Biodiesel Board (NBB). The soybean grower from Carlyle, Ill., who was elected by the NBB's 143 voting members at its November board meeting, represents the American Soybean Association and has served as an NBB board member since 1998.

Officers elected to lead the nonprofit association's board are:
--Vice chairman-Jim Conway of Griffin Industries, a biodiesel supplier based in Cold Spring, Ky.
--Secretary-Gary Haer of Renewable Energy Group Inc., a biodiesel supplier based in Ralston, Iowa
--Treasurer-Ed Ulch, a farmer from Solon, Iowa, representing the Iowa Soybean Association

Additionally, three others joined the governing board: Greg Anderson, a farmer representing the Nebraska Soybean Board; Bill Ayres of Ag BioEnergy LP in Austin, Texas; and Kris Kappenman of Archer Daniels Midland Co. in Decatur, Ill. The remaining governing board members who are still serving their terms are:

--Jim Boushka of Smithfield BioEnergy, a biodiesel supplier in Smithfield, Va.
--John Campbell of Ag Environmental Products, a division of Ag Processing Inc., a biodiesel fuel supplier based in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa
--Gene Gebolys of World Energy, a biodiesel supplier based in Chelsea, Mass.
--Ed Hegland, a Minnesota farmer representing the state's Soybean Research & Promotion Council
--Bob Metz, a farmer representing the South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council
--Robert Stobaugh, a farmer representing the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board
--Fred Wellons of Baker Commodities, a biodiesel supplier based in Los Angeles, Calif.
--David Womack, a farmer representing the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board

The NBB recognized outgoing governing board members Jerry Osterholt, former treasurer and Indiana Soybean Board representative; Jeff Nelson of Northfield, Ill., biodiesel supplier Stepan Company and marketing committee chair; and Bob Clark of Noil Energy Group in Commerce, Calif.
