Construction begins in Illinois on REG’s 1st fueling station
North America’s largest biodiesel producer, Renewable Energy Group Inc., held an open house March 1 in Seneca, Illinois, to celebrate the start of construction on the company’s first diesel fueling station. REG owns and operates a 60 MMgy biodiesel plant in Seneca, just one of more than a dozen REG production facilities.
“It makes great sense to build our first fueling station in Seneca,” said Jon Scharingson, REG’s executive director of sales and marketing. “This facility brings in more than 17,000 trucks per year. Those trucks have to drive through town to get to the plant. To keep the community’s air clean, we are providing those drivers with a cleaner fuel option to put in the trucks.”
The 35,000-gallon diesel fueling station, which will offer blended REG biodiesel to the public, is expected to open this spring.
“The village of Seneca has been a great supporter of our business and this is a way to give back,” said Tim Mann, plant manager for REG Seneca. “This station will help lower emissions in the city as well as support our local farmers who provide the inputs, or feedstocks, we use to produce our biodiesel.”
