National Biodiesel Board Sparks New Interest Among Fleets

By | July 15, 2009
Biodiesel has found some big fans among truck and fleet operators who are hearing more and more that their customers want cleaner burning alternatives to traditional shipping and transport options. Biodiesel offers a great solution, and NBB is taking advantage of new opportunities to tout biodiesel's benefits.

One example is a new partnership with Big Truck TV. NBB contractor Sharon Bell is now a featured blogger on the Web-based channel, and the site generates 32,750 unique video views a month and is promoted in the weekly BTTV newsletter reaching 40,000 subscribers.

NBB also launched a section on the National Association of Truck Stop Operators Web site devoted to biodiesel. The section is designed to educate truck-stop owners and operators on selling biodiesel and features monthly articles. Articles cover everything from tax incentives and grants for installing biodiesel equipment, to factors that have shaped demand for biodiesel in the past, and drivers for biodiesel demand today.

The NBB also makes several stops at trucking and fleet conferences throughout the year. This summer, Blue Sky Shipping of California joined the NBB booth at the Great West Truck show.

"For Blue Sky Shipping, biodiesel is our most important asset," said Charles Whitwam, owner of Blue Sky. "Blue Sky wasn't a trucking company before using biodiesel; Blue Sky is a trucking company because of biodiesel, and it's why we exist." The show featured a free Web site networking tool that matches shippers with truckers and fleets using biodiesel.

Blue Sky has been using B100 in its six-truck fleet since 2003.
