National Biodiesel Foundation supports U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree

By | November 20, 2009
The Christmas tree illuminating the foreground of our nation's Capitol will be a little greener this year thanks to help from the National Biodiesel Foundation and others. The Capitol Christmas Tree made its way from its home in Arizona to Washington, powered by cleaner burning biodiesel.

Working with the State of Arizona, Southwest Industrial Rigging, the Tucson Regional Clean Cities Coalition and generous sponsors, NBF helped the tree's host state make real its dream of a cleaner trip for the Christmas tree.

"We are honored to be the first state to deliver the tree in a clean, green manner," said Richard Davalos, coordinator of the Capitol Christmas Tree, as the tree embarked on its journey. "We are also honored to help promote reducing America's dependence on foreign oil." The route allowed for refueling with biodiesel and featured public education and outreach events.

"This is a great undertaking, and one that Arizona should be proud of," said Tom Verry, NBF executive director. "We are happy that renewable, cleaner burning biodiesel will be part of our Capitol's Christmas tradition."

The tree was cut from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, which led the overall Christmas tree program (www.capitolchristmastree2009.org) this year with support from many partners and sponsors.

"The process is honorary and historic, a production like none other," said Clean Cities Manager Colleen Crowninshield. "Arizona has a grand opportunity to showcase the Grand Canyon State with a tree that will illuminate the foreground of the nation's Capitol with all the magic and splendor representative of our great state."
