Tennessee biodiesel plant nears completion

By | December 01, 2004
AMPM Environmental Services is close to completing construction on a biodiesel production plant in Moscow, Tenn.

The plant, called AMPM Environmental Technology, will collect used cooking oil from sites across the southeastern United States to make the renewable fuel. It will produce between 10,000 and 25,000 gallons of biodiesel per day, or roughly 1 mmgy. The company will employ more than 40 workers at the facility and 10 to 15 drivers.

AMPM Environmental Services owner Anthony Moss said construction is approximately 80 percent complete. The plant could start up by Jan. 1, 2005. Construction began in November 2003. Moss designed the plant, and Harris Construction Company of Hickory Valley, Tenn., is building it.

oss told Biodiesel Magazine that Williams Petroleum Company Inc. will distribute AMPM Environmental Technology's biodiesel. The renewable fuel will likely stay in the local area, which includes a farmers co-op and various trucking companies that could use biodiesel and its coproducts.

Moss, who started his own pumping business and joined the Tennessee Feed and Grain Association, decided to build a biodiesel pump five years ago when his friends began telling him about the fuel. When the American JOBS Creation Act of 2004 passed in October, offering a 20-cent tax credit to B20 blenders, Moss saw an even greater benefit to producing the fuel. "There's a lot of waste out there," Moss said. "And you can put it back as a fuel resource. Engines run cleaner. Even the byproducts of biodiesel production are beneficial."
