Anamax holds groundbreaking for Wisconsin plant

Anamax has signed an agreement with Texas-based National BioFuels to market the plant's biodiesel. Although capable of using multiple feedstocks, the facility will primarily use recycled grease from the neighboring grease plant. "We don't know what percent of soybeans we will use as feedstock," said Mike Spahn, general manager for Anamax Grease Services. "It all depends on feed prices and the amount of grease available."
Anamax Grease Services collects used restaurant grease from a five-state area and processes up to 4 million pounds of it per week. Grease Services has provided the cleaned oils to various areas of the feed industry in the past. Spahn said the grease plant will continue to provide feed companies with the same services as they do now. "We have a fair amount of oil in the company now, and there is plenty to go around," Spahn said.
In early December, Anamax was putting in water and sewer lines before the initial ground freeze. "Depending on the weather, major construction should begin in late February or early March," Spahn said. Anamax expects to start up the plant in August.
