ADM receives carbon capture funding

August 27, 2010

In June, Archer Daniels Midland Co. received a $99.2 million grant from the U.S. DOE for a commercial-scale carbon capture and sequestration project which will capture and store 1 million tons of CO2 produced annually at the company's ethanol facility in Decatur, Ill. The $163.9 million project will demonstrate commercial-scale carbon capture and storage through the operation of a collection, compression and dehydration facility. Processed CO2 will be delivered to the nearby Mount Simon Sandstone formation, where it will be stored approximately 7,000 feet below ground. The project is expected to conclude in the third quarter of 2015.
