Bush budget boosts cellulosic research

The Bush Administration released its 2009 budget proposal Feb. 4, which included a $1 billion increase in the U.S. DOE budget. Within that, $1.25 billion was requested for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, a $1 million increase from 2008. The budget requests $225 million for biomass fuels and vehicles research out of a total $592.3 million for fuels and vehicles research and development. In the USDA's budget briefing, officials said they've proposed additional funds for high-priority bioenergy research for converting cellulose materials into biofuels.
