Canadian report shows biodiesel benefits

April 15, 2008

A recent study conducted by Resource Efficient Agricultural Production-Canada has concluded that canola- and soy-based biodiesel reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) by 58 percent and 50 percent, respectively, compared with regular diesel fuel. The report, titled "Analyzing Ontario Biofuel Options," compared various commercially available energy technologies, evaluating their costs and benefits for reducing GHGs when used for transportation fuel, electricity generation or thermal energy applications. The report concluded that biomass pellets offered the most cost-effective way for government incentives to reduce GHGs.
