East Kansas Agri-Energy wins award

January 10, 2008

East Kansas Agri-Energy, a 35 MMgy ethanol facility in Garnett, Kan., was presented a Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program award by Occupational Safety and Health Administration representative Glenn Taylor on Dec. 5.

SHARP provides incentives to high-hazard employers to develop, implement and improve workplace safety and health programs. EKAE, which started production in the summer of 2005, followed several SHARP criteria in order to be considered for the award. One criterion involved having a lost workday injury and illness rate and total recordable case rate below the national average for the ethanol industry. EKAE's rates were zero for both, according to Plant Manager Doug Sommer.
