Singh receives Excellence Award

December 9, 2003

Vijay Singh, a food and bioprocess engineer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, received the 2003 Young Faculty Excellence Award from the Corn Refiner's Association (CRA), the university announced Sept. 25.

The CRA, a national trade association representing companies that refine corn using the wet milling process, gave Singh a grant of $20,000 per year for three years to further his research in corn wet milling.

Singh and his colleagues developed an enzymatic corn wet milling process that will reduce steep time and produce starch yields similar to conventional corn wet milling. Singh told EPM the process can also be applied to dry grind ethanol production.
