The news was made public by Commerce Secretary Aaron Olver on behalf of Gov. Jim Doyle as part of his eighth annual Up North tour in Cumberland. The funding package includes $800,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds provided to Sun Power Biodiesel through Wisconsin's State Energy Program. The state is also awarding a $349,825 Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities for Economic Development grant to the city of Cumberland aimed to help pay for infrastructure investments including water mains, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street construction, electric installation and lighting.READ MORE  College receives grant for biodiesel trainingThe Minnesota Governor's Workforce Development Council has awarded $100,000 in grant funding to the Anoka-Ramsey Community College in east-central Minnesota. The funding will allow up to 44 displaced workers to receive biofuels training.
Participants in the one-year training program will be selected from a target population that includes military veterans, displaced workers and incumbent employees. According to Stephen Jones, the college's director of continuing education and customized training, participants in the program will be recruited through the Anoka County Workforce Center and the Central Minnesota Training Partnership Program.READ MORE BlueFire rebrands, changes nameBlueFire Ethanol Fuels Inc. has changed its name to BlueFire Renewables Inc. BlueFire Renewables will continue to trade under the ticker symbol BRFE.OB.READ MORE Biodiesel Industries selected for grantCalifornia-based Biodiesel Industries Inc. has been selected by the California Energy Commission to receive an $886,815 grant to support a multi-year project that will demonstrate biodiesel production using algae in an integrated energy system monitored by the Automated Real-time, Remote, Integared Energy System (ARIES) platform. The grant was awarded under the state's Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program. Construction on the project is currently expected to being in late September, and will take an estimated 29 months to complete.READ MORE New recyclable biodiesel catalyst developedResearchers from Down to Earth Energy, a biodiesel research and production facility in Monroe, Ga., and the University of Georgia have developed a new, recyclable biodiesel catalyst. "Most current production methods use concentrated sulfuric acid and caustic methoxides as catalysts in these reactions," Tyson Johnson, Down to Earth Energy CFO, said.
