Sun Power Biodiesel promotes local crops

Sun Power Biodiesel LLC in Cumberland, Wis., has been awarded a $25,000 Wisconsin Agriculture Development and Diversity grant to help promote the planting of canola and sunflower crops in a 10-county area in northern Wisconsin. A bill signed into law by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sept. 26 lowers the fee that private individuals must pay before being lawfully able to collect yellow grease from institutions for the purpose of producing biodiesel. Dynamic Fuels LLC, a joint venture formed between Tyson Foods and Syntroleum Corp., held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 6 for its 75 MMgy renewable synthetic fuel production facility in Geismar, La. The new facility will utilize Syntroleum's patent pending Bio-Refining Technology.READ MORE

Nova Biosource facility off-line due to fire

A fire at Nova Biosource Fuels Inc., a 10 MMgy biodiesel plant in Clinton, Iowa, broke out Sept. 30 in the primary biodiesel recovery column. The facility, which had been idled for maintenance at the time of the incident, will continue to be shut down for damage assessment and repairs, according to the company.READ MORE

According to a global 2008 biodiesel report prepared by California-based SRI Consulting, the United States is currently positioned to become the largest biodiesel market in the world by 2012, consuming nearly 19 percent of the world's biodiesel supply.READ MORE
