The Power Alternative to develop two plants in Alberta


Detroit-based The Power Alternative Inc. and a consortium of Canadian and Alberta partners have announced the continued development of two 66 million liter per year (17 MMgy) biodiesel plants in Alberta, expected to be operating by early 2013.

CME Group launches Argus US biodiesel swap futures contract


CME Group has listed the first-ever U.S. biodiesel swap future based on Houston biodiesel prices published by Argus. The new swap future is available for trading on the NYMEX trading floor and for submission for clearing through CME ClearPort.

London fleet adds B30 following customer requests


A London-based private fleet service has listened to customer feedback regarding its use of environmentally friendly vehicles, and now Greentomatocars has added biodiesel. The firm will offer eight-passenger vehicles and executive cars fueled by B30.

DOT awards grants for biodiesel buses


U.S. DOT is funding 46 innovative transit projects aimed at helping reduce the nation's dependence on oil while creating a marketplace for green jobs. Secretary Ray LaHood announced that these projects will share a combined $112 million from the FTA.

Mission announces spent bleached earth processing facility


Mission NewEnergy Ltd. announced construction of a new waste processing facility in Sandakan, Sabah Malaysia. The facility will allow Mission to recover palm oil from spent bleached earth, which is a waste material in the palm oil refining process.

ISA Soy 2020 meeting highlights Ill. biodiesel industry growth


Biodiesel is enjoying a rebound in 2011 after two down years, and the industry can now take "all the soybean oil that Illinois soybean farmers can provide," said National Biodiesel Board CEO Joe Jobe at the ISA Soy 2020 meeting in Bloomington, Ill.
