Isis Innovation Ltd., a technology transfer company that is wholly owned by the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, has patented a technology that uses a metal catalyst to convert glycerin, a byproduct of biodiesel production, into methanol.READ MORE

Iowa-based biodiesel producer Renewable Energy Group Inc. is partnering with Kellerstrass Oil Co., an independent fuel marketer in Ogden, Utah, to sell pure or blended REG-9000-1 branded B99.9 biodiesel to fuel distributors at the Kellerstrass fuel terminal in Ogden.READ MORE

Montana researcher finds diesel-producing fungus

Gary Strobel has dubbed his discovery myco-diesel - a hydrocarbon-producing fungus he found growing in a tree in a Patagonian forest. The endophytic fungus, Gliocladium roseum has been shown to produce many of the same hydrocarbons found in diesel, growing on cellulosic material.READ MORE

Ambassadors dispute EU biofuel policy amendments

Ambassadors from eight countries have sent a letter to the European Union disputing the inclusion of indirect land use change when calculating greenhouse gas emissions for biofuels imported by Europe. The letter to the EU was signed by ambassadors from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malawi, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Indonesia and Malaysia.READ MORE

U.S. coalition supports indirect land use proposal

A coalition of mostly non-profit environmental groups has issued a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson stating the case for the inclusion of indirect land use impacts in the renewable fuels standard enacted in the U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The EPA is expected to release a policy proposal for public comment later this fall.READ MORE

WASDE: Soybean production estimates reduced

The November USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimate projects the national average soybean yield at 39.3 bushels per acre � producing 2.92 billion bushels of soybeans. That figure is down 17 million bushels from last month's corrected estimates.READ MORE
