May US biodiesel exports outpace imports as production record hit


Biodiesel exports were up significantly in May as the U.S. shipped out 23.3 million gallons, more than tripling March export volumes and up nearly 8 million gallons from April's export volume. Imports grew to 16 million from April's 13 million.

US EPA finalizes 2013 RFS volumes; Nat'l Biodiesel Board pleased


The U.S. EPA finalized the much-anticipated 2013 percentage standards for the four fuel categories under the renewable fuel standard. Since it was finalized so late, EPA is extending the deadline to comply with the 2013 standards to June 30, 2014.

Calif. issues statement clarifying renewable diesel questions


CARB and the state water board issued a joint statement July 31 to clarify questions raised over the status of renewable diesel. The statement said renewable diesel should be treated the same as conventional CARB diesel, including storage in USTs.

National Distributors Inc. to save money with biodiesel blend


National Distributors Inc. announced a new partnership Aug. 5 with Maine Standard Biofuels to begin using a blend of biodiesel made from used cooking oil sourced from Maine restaurants. It's expected to save National Distributors 10 cents a gallon.

Biofuel consumption in EU slowed as pending cap, ILUC looms


Between 2011-'12, biofuel consumption grew only 2.9 percent, compared to the previous year's growth of 5.3 percent. Reasons given by EurObserv'ER's annual Biofuels Barometer include economic crisis and a pending EU biofuels cap and ILUC inclusion.

REG completes acquisition of 30 MMgy Soy Energy biodiesel plant


Ames, Iowa-based Renewable Energy Group Inc. acquired the biodiesel plant for $11 million cash and issuance of a $5.1 million promissory note. The acquisition brings the company's total annual biodiesel production capacity to 257 million gallons.

Biodiesel back online at Buckeye Hartford after meter repairs


After going down for repairs recently, the meter at Buckeye Terminal's Hartford, Ill., biodiesel terminal has been repaired and proven accurate. It's back in service allowing biodiesel deliveries to restart Aug. 1, according to Gulf Hydrocarbon.
