Cavitation sells biodiesel reactor system

California-based Cavitation Technologies Inc. sold its first Bioforce 9000 Nano Biodiesel Reactor Skid System to Miami-based SRS Engineering Inc. on Dec. 18. The equipment will be a component of SRS Engineering's 10 MMgy turnkey biodiesel production system being installed by Missouri-based Process Concepts Inc. at an unnamed location. BIRD funds Israeli enzymatic biodiesel process

TransBiodiesel Ltd., an incubator project in Haifa, Israel, has been awarded $1.5 million from the Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation based in Tel Aviv, Israel. The company aims to work with a U.S. company to commercialize its patented process that uses enzymes to convert vegetable oils and animal fats into biodiesel.READ MORE

UC Davis tests jatropha for Chevron

Researchers at the University of California, Davis, are growing jatropha at three locations in California to test how the biodiesel feedstock fares in California's varied climates. HydroGenetics Inc., an emerging green energy holding company, announced the execution of a binding letter of intent to acquire Tonawanda, N.Y.-based Buffalo Biodiesel Inc. The transaction is expected to be complete by the end of the year.READ MORE

Iowa RFIB awards funding to biodiesel retailers

The Iowa Department of Economics Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Board approved more than $1.52 million in grants for 43 biodiesel and E85 retailers and terminal operators across the state to expand their renewable fuel infrastructure. Thirteen of the awards were for biodiesel dispensers, including the state's first biodiesel blender pump planned at Pioneer's Rest Area in Dubuque, Iowa.READ MORE

Biodiesel producer to lead IRFA board of directors

For the first time, a biodiesel producer is serving as president of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association. Denny Mauser, board member of Western Iowa Energy LLC, will lead the organization, which will continue to build the state's renewable energy ag economy in 2009.READ MORE

EU adopts 10 percent biofuels mandate

The European Union is increasing its B5 standard to B7 as part of the Fuel Quality Directive passed Dec. 17 along with the new Renewable Energy Directive. Once the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) publishes the revised standards by June, member states can adjust their targets to meet the requirements.READ MORE
