Gaiatech to supply biodiesel for Navi Mumbai buses

Gaiatech Fuels Pvt. Ltd., of Hyderabad, India, has been awarded a one-year contract to supply approximately 1.6 million liters (423,000 gallons) of biodiesel to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport system in Navi Mumbai, India. Gaiatech will supply biodiesel for a B20 blend that will be used by the transportation system's 261 buses.READ MORE

Innovation Fuels acquires Port of Milwaukee terminal

Albany, N.Y.-based biodiesel producer Innovation Fuels Inc. has purchased a 310,000 barrel (43,000 metric ton) capacity terminal located on 10 acres at the Port of Milwaukee in Wisconsin. VTG Rail UK studies effects of B5 blend in tank cars

VTG Rail UK Ltd., based in Birmingham, U.K., has completed a one-year study in partnership with tank car lining manufacturers to determine the effects of biodiesel on tank car components and interiors. According to VTG, the study concluded that B5 blended with petroleum diesel has no adverse affect on tank cars parts and lining materials.READ MORE

Roundtable seeks international sustainability input

Stakeholder outreach meetings on the Roundtable for Sustainable Biofuels will be held to gather input on Version Zero of the RSB's principles and criteria for sustainability which was published last fall. The first meeting will be held Jan. 28 in Durham, N.C.; a second meeting will follow the National Biodiesel Conference on Feb. 4 in San Francisco.READ MORE

Beacon Energy reduces workforce, production

Beacon Energy Holdings Inc. announced Jan. 7 it had reduced the workforce at its Cleburne, Texas, biodiesel refinery by approximately 30 percent. Production has also been temporarily reduced at the facility while the company works through its existing fuel inventory.READ MORE

Signal Hill, Calif.-based Primafuel has unveiled an international Algae Biorefinery Program intended to combine upstream algae production and downstream biorefinery systems that can serve as an innovative platform for commercializing algae technologies.READ MORE

USDA raises soy production, export estimates

In its Jan. 12 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, the USDA raised its soybean production estimates for the 2008-'09 crop. Two other reports, also issued Jan. 12, showed U.S. soybean stocks are down 4 percent compared to the previous year, however, the 2008 soybean production was the fourth highest historically.READ MORE

Continental Airlines tests biofuel in Boeing 737

Continental Airlines successfully demonstrated the use of a biofuel blend to power a commercial aircraft for the first time in North America on Jan. 7. During the test flight, a 50-percent biofuel blend produced using algae and jatropha oil was used to operate one engine, while the other one ran on traditional jet fuel.READ MORE
