Appalachian Biofuels to build plant using TransBiodiesel enzymes


Appalachian Biofuels is investing $3.5 million to manufacture biodiesel from waste feedstocks using immobilized enzymes from Israel-based TransBiodiesel. The facility will be built in Russell County, Va.

Renewable Energy Group Inc. is expanding its division that sells heating oil and petroleum diesel along with biodiesel blends by offering additional biofuel blends in New York, Minnesota and Iowa, the company announced Oct. 31.

IncBio moving headquarters to accommodate business growth


Biodiesel process technology provider IncBio is moving its headquarters from Porto to Maia, Portugal, to accommodate growth. It expects the move to be complete early next year, with the manufacturing business segment moving in the next two months.

Mary Rosenthal, the first executive director of the Algae Biomass Organization, died Nov. 1 after her battle with cancer. Rosenthal became executive director of the ABO in 2009 and was considered the voice of the algae industry by many.

Solenis awarded patent for use of chemicals in DCO extraction


Solenis has received a patent for the use of chemical additives to improve the separation of distillers corn oil (DCO) at ethanol plants. Solenis says its additives can help capture up to three times more oil than methods without its chemicals.
