US EPA releases March, Q1 2015 RIN generation figures


The U.S. EPA released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for March. More than 191 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs (128 million gallons) were generated in March, bringing the net total for Q1 2015 to 472.28 million RINs.

Cima Green's Joseph Furando pleads guilty to biodiesel RIN fraud


Joseph Furando, together with two companies he operated in New Jersey, pleaded guilty April 15 for their parts in an Indiana-centered scheme with e-Biofuels to defraud biodiesel buyers and U.S. taxpayers by fraudulently selling biodiesel incentives.

EPA to finalize 2014, 2015 and 2016 RFS rules by November


The U.S. EPA has posted a notice to its website announcing that the volume requirements for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 renewable fuel standard (RFS), along with the 2017 volume requirement for biomass-based diesel, will be finalized by Nov. 30.

UK energy department releases 2014 liquid biofuel data


The U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change has released provisional annual energy statistics for 2014, reporting that biodiesel accounted for 3.4 percent of total diesel last year while ethanol accounted for 4.6 percent of gasoline.

Total to convert oil refinery to renewable diesel production


To curb financial losses, French oil company Total announced plans to invest $216 million to convert its La Mede oil refinery in southern France to a renewable diesel facility that will produce up to 500,000 tons per year (more than 160 MMgy).

State report: Biodiesel use continues to grow in Iowa


A report from the state's revenue department showed that biodiesel sales (B100) increased by more than 15 percent over 2013 to an all-time-high of 33.3 million gallons. In turn, biodiesel now accounts for 4.6 percent of Iowa's total diesel supply.
