Congressional leaders sought reinstatement of the expired biodiesel blender's tax incentive in the tax and spending proposal released Dec. 15. Voting is expected later this week. NBB says it will continue pushing for a producer's credit.

Finnish court says UPM not infringing on Neste patent


The Finnish Market Court has ruled in an infringement suit filed by Neste against UPM. According to the court's decision, the process used at the UPM Lappeenranta Biorefinery is not within the scope of Neste's patent (FI 100248).

Oregon joins Calif., BC in climate fight with clean fuels program


Oregon's DEQ commission voted Dec. 9 to finalize its clean fuels program. Oregon becomes the third jurisdiction on the West Coast—following California and British Columbia—to implement a comprehensive low carbon fuels policy for transportation.

RINs behavior after EPA rule shows ethanol-biodiesel relationship


EPA's final RFS rule was a shock to the RIN markets. D4 biomass-based diesel RINs went up 30 percent and D6 RINs, dominated by corn ethanol, increased more than 90 percent. University of Illinois economists Irwin and Good examine the recent trends.

German biodiesel consumption continues to decline


At around 50 million gallons, the use of biodiesel in blends was down about 15 percent from the same month the previous year. By contrast, demand for petroleum diesel is brisk, rising 1 percent in the wake of low crude oil prices, according to AMI.

Lagosur, Alianza Pacifco partner in Latin America biodiesel sales


Miami-based Lagosur Corp. has announced a collaboration with Alianza Pacifco to sell biodiesel to the mining and transportation industries in Chili, Peru and Mexico. The company announced its plan to export biodiesel to Latin America last July.

After conducting truck and engine lab testing, Volvo Trucks North America approved the use of renewable diesel for all of its proprietary Volvo engines. Volvo noted multiple benefits to using renewable diesel as a commercial transportation fuel.
