NHC to build second US-based biodiesel catalyst plant in Houston


As New Heaven Chemicals Iowa LLC nears completion of its new 18,000-ton sodium methylate manufacturing plant at the Manly Terminal in Manly, Iowa, the company is well underway in developing another biodiesel catalyst facility in Texas.

Obama signs spending bill, tax extenders legislation


On Dec. 18, President Obama signed a $1.1 trillion spending bill and accompanying legislative package of tax extenders into law. The legislation includes two-year extensions of several tax credits that benefit the bioenergy sector.

Biodiesel blenders tax credit passes US House, Senate


The tax extenders package that includes the two-year retroactive extension of the $1/gallon biodiesel and renewable diesel blenders tax credit was passed by both chambers of U.S. Congress as one of the legislative branch's last items for the session.

UK consumed more ethanol than biodiesel during second quarter


The U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change has released renewable energy statistics for the second quarter of 2015, reporting liquid biofuels consumption fell by 24 percent, from 464 million liters during Q2 2014 to 355 million liters this Q2.

Port of Seattle, Alaska Air, Boeing form Sea-Tac biojet alliance


On Dec. 16, executives from Boeing, Alaska Airlines and the Port of Seattle signed an MOU to launch a $250,000 infrastructure study to assess costs and infrastructure needed to deliver a blend of biojet fuel to aircraft at the Sea-Tac airport.

San Francisco fleets complete switch to renewable diesel


On Dec. 11 the city and county of San Francisco announced they have ended their use of petroleum diesel in the city's fleet and replaced it with renewable diesel. The city operates 1,966 diesel-powered vehicles consuming 5.8 million gallons a year.
