Enzymatic biodiesel plant in St. Joseph, Missouri, sold


Ocean Park Advisors announced July 20 that its client, Terra Biodiesel Holding LLC, closed the sale of its biodiesel plant located in St. Joseph, Missouri, to an undisclosed strategic buyer. OPA acted as exclusive advisor to Terra Biodiesel Holding.

40 US senators call for higher biodiesel targets in RFS


Forty U.S. senators from across the country called on the EPA July 21 to strengthen biodiesel volumes in the pending renewable fuel standard (RFS) proposal. The EPA proposed 2.1 billion gallons for 2018, but the senators are pushing for 2.5 billion.

Record year in store as June biodiesel imports highest since 2013


On June 29, the Ardmore Seahawk delivered its second load of Argentine biodiesel to Jacksonville, Florida. The shipment of1.47 million gallons capped off an unusually active June in what is shaping up to be an unusually active year for imports.

Bill intro'd in Senate to reform, extend tax credit through 2019


A bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate to extend the $1-per-gallon biodiesel tax credit through 2019 and restructure the incentive from a blenders credit to a domestic production credit. The bill mirrors House legislation introduced in May.

Biodiesel catalyst supplier commissions L-lysine plant in Brazil


Specialty chemicals company and biodiesel catalyst supplier Evonik Industries AG has commissioned a new fermentation plant in Brazil to produce 80,000 metric tons of its Biolys-branded L-lysine, an amino acid used as an animal feed additive.

1st sustainable flight in Africa fueled by tobacco-based biojet


On Boeing's 100th anniversary, South African Airways celebrated Africa's first sustainable biofuel flight. The flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town, operated by a Boeing 737-800, used biojet fuel produced from Sunchem's nicotine-free tobacco plant.

Canadian, Quebec governments invest $76.5M in bio-oil facility


The governments of Canada and Quebec announced in July they will provide a combined $76.5 million in funding to AE Cote-Nord Bioenergy Canada Inc. for the production of renewable fuel oil from forest residues at its Port-Cartier facility.

The U.S. DOE announced up to $15 million for three projects aimed at reducing the production costs of algae-based biofuels and bioproducts. The three recipients are Global Algae Innovations Inc., Algenol Biotech LLC and MicroBio Engineering Inc.
