Brazil’s ANP approves B15, raises minimum biodiesel level to 11%


Brazil’s National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) announced Aug. 6 it has approved the sale and use of B15 and that, come Sept. 1, it is increasing the minimum biodiesel content required in diesel fuel from 10 to 11 percent.

JBS to more than double biodiesel output with new plant in Brazil


Global food company JBS announced it is building a new biodiesel plant in Brazil. JBS is investing approximately $48 million through Seara Alimentos to build and operate a biodiesel factory in Mafra. The plant will be operated by JBS Biodiesel.

EU tariffs on Indonesian biodiesel welcomed with caution


The EU Commission recently decided to introduce temporary countervailing duties on biodiesel imports from Indonesia. Germany’s UFOP warns that a slowdown of imports must not lead to European biodiesel producers using palm oil as feedstock instead.

Neste hosts foundation stone ceremony for Singapore expansion


Neste held a foundation stone ceremony July 31 to officially mark the €1.4 billion expansion of its renewable products production capacity in Singapore. Construction began early this year. The project is expected to come online in 2022.

Finnair offers biofuel flights from San Francisco to Helsinki


On both Aug. 5 and Aug. 7, the Finnair flight departing San Francisco Airport bound for Helsinki, Finland, will be flown with a biofuel mix of 12 percent, reducing the total C02 emissions for the two flights by approximately 32 tons.

Comment period officially opens on 2020-’21 RFS proposal


The U.S. EPA published its proposed rule to set Renewable Fuel Standard 2020 RVOs and the 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel in the Federal Register July 29, officially opening a public comment period. Comments can be filed through Aug. 30.

Neste released financial results July 25 for the first half of 2019, reporting increased earnings for its renewable products segment, a new quarterly sales record for renewable products, and a high utilization rate of its renewable diesel capacity.

National Biodiesel Board executives criticized the EPA proposal for the 2020 RFS and 2021 biodiesel volumes in testimony at a hearing hosted by EPA in Michigan, emphasizing that the agency is sending a negative signal to the biodiesel industry.

IBB implores US EPA to raise biodiesel gallons under RFS


At a July 31 hearing in Michigan, the chair of the Iowa Biodiesel Board and a farmer leader from the Iowa Soybean Association requested U.S. EPA to reconsider its proposed requirements for biodiesel under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard.
