EIA predicts steep growth in US renewable diesel capacity


The U.S. Energy Information Administration released data on July 21 forecasting that U.S. renewable diesel production capacity will reach 5.1 billion gallons per year by 2024, up from an estimated 600 MMgy in 2020.

Lawmakers ask Regan to prioritize RFS rulemakings


A group of 29 members of Congress on July 30 sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the agency to prioritize rulemaking to set RFS RVOs for 2021 and 2022, along with the biomass-based diesel RVOs for 2022 and 2023.

Alberta awards TEIR funds to Canary Biofuels’ plant


The government of Alberta on July 27 announced C$4.7 million in support for Canary Biofuels’ 70 MMly (18.49 MMgy) biorefinery that will convert agriculture waste, inedible animal fats and used cooking oil into biodiesel and glycerin.

EU announces 5-year extension of tariffs on US biodiesel imports


The European Union on Aug. 2 published a notice announcing it will extend tariffs on U.S. biodiesel for an additional five years, through 2026, following a review by the European Commission. The tariffs have been in place since 2009.
