Marathon Petroleum Corp. announced progress with its renewable diesel projects during a Q2 earnings call, held Aug. 4. The company’s renewable diesel plant in North Dakota reached full capacity and conversion work is ongoing at a California refinery.

Phillips 66 ramps up renewable diesel production


Phillips 66 on Aug. 3 announced the hydrotreater conversion at its refinery in Rodeo, California, reached full production in July. The facility can produce up to 8,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel, equivalent to approximately 120 MMgy.

USDA lowers forecasts for soybean oil use in biofuel


The USDA lowered its 2021-’22 forecast for soybean oil use in biofuel production in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released Aug. 12. The estimate for 2020-’21 soybean oil use in biofuel was also revised down.

EIA: US biofuel capacity, feedstock consumption up in May


U.S. biofuel production capacity expanded slightly in May, reaching 20.795 billion gallons, up from 20.777 billion gallons in April. Total feedstock consumption was approximately 26.768 billion pounds in May, up from 24.296 billion pounds in April.

USDA: US biodiesel exports up in June


The U.S. exported 90,863.1 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater in June, up from both 82,320.3 metric tons in May and 73,667.4 metric tons in June 2020, according to data released by the USDA on Aug. 5.
