Minnesota takes initial steps to develop new Clean Fuel Standard


Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Oct. 7 directed state agencies to explore ways to reduce climate change impacts from transportation fuels. As part of that effort, state agencies will begin work to develop a new Clean Fuel Standard for Minnesota.

The USDA maintained its 2021-’22 forecast for soybean oil use in biofuel in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released Oct. 12. The agency’s estimate for 2020-’21 soybean oil use in biofuel was also maintained.

USDA predicts record soybean production in 2021


The USDA released updated data on Oct. 12 predicting that 2021 soybean production will reach a record 4.45 billion bushels, up 2 percent from the agency’s September forecast and up 5 percent from 2020.

BP to double renewable diesel capacity at Northwest refinery


BP is making a $45 million investment to expand renewable diesel production capacity at its Cherry Point Refinery in Washington state. When complete next year, the facility will produce an estimated 2.6 million barrels of renewable diesel per year.

EIA: US biofuel capacity, feedstock consumption expand in July


Operable biofuel production capacity in the U.S. expanded slightly in July, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Sept. 30. Biodiesel capacity was up, while capacity for ethanol and other biofuels held steady.

Renewable Energy Group Inc. on Sept. 29 announced the closing of its 35 million gallon per year nameplate capacity facility located near Houston, Texas. The company acquired and commissioned the plant in 2008 and has been operating it since.
