Company doubles CO2 uptake in algae strains

LAX ground service equipment to run on renewables

The Air Transport Association of America Inc. (ATA), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, announced today that eight of its member airlines have signed an unprecedented agreement with Rentech Inc. and Aircraft Service International Group (ASIG) to purchase up to 1.5 million gallons per year of renewable synthetic diesel fuel (RenDiesel) for use in ground service equipment at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beginning in late 2012, when Rentech's plant to produce the fuel is scheduled to go into service.READ MORE 8-19-09

Proposed Colorado plant signs offtake agreement

Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises LLC has signed an offtake agreement with Gray Oil Company Inc. for its proposed 4.5 MMgy biodiesel plant at Fort Morgan, Colo. The $5 million plant scheduled to break ground this fall will supply up to 4.5 million gallons annually to the regional fuel distributor.READ MORE

WASDE: New crop projections lowered, still higher than soybeans last year

USDA dropped its yield projections for the maturing U.S. soybean crop to 41.7 bushels per acre, nearly 1 bushel below the previous month's projections. That yield, however, is still 2.1 bushels per acre above last year's yield. The first survey-based forecast of U.S. soybean production given in the Aug. 12 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report was 3.2 billion bushels, 61 million below the July projection, but 240 million bushels above last year's crop.READ MORE

Prairie Pride and Tenaska Biofuels enter into tolling agreement

Competing against the vertically integrated, multinational giants is nearly impossible for independents in the agriculture and energy sectors. As such, Tenaska Biofuels LLC of Omaha, Neb., and Prairie Pride Inc. of Deerfield, Mo., have sought to integrate their businesses for a stronger position in the marketplace by applying a traditional partnership template to biofuels.READ MORE

Bluegrass BioDiesel nears completion

Bluegrass BioDiesel LLC is halfway through the commissioning process, with all interior systems having been checked out and systems being tested outside as contractors complete their work. Rocky Mountain Biodiesel holds grand opening

Rocky Mountain Biodiesel held a grand opening Aug. 19 at its new 1 MMgy production facility completed in June in Parker, Colo. The facility supplies B100 and B99.9 to regional fuel distributors and club members. Rocky Mountain Biodiesel club memberships are available to consumers at the Parker facility for $20 annually. The current club price for B99.9 biodiesel is $2.30 per gallon.READ MORE

New TransAtlas upgrade shows biodiesel industry diversity

Geographical knowledge is very important to marketing fuels, and a recent upgrade to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's TransAtlas tool correlates biodiesel production locations with diesel vehicle density and fueling stations across the United States. The TransAtlas tool was originally launched in June, but biodiesel plant locations were uploaded as a new "layer" just last week after the National Biodiesel Board completed a recent producer survey, allowing the interactive map to have the most up-to-date information.READ MORE
