University of Kansas produces, tests biodiesel

Researchers at the University of Kansas in Lawrence are preparing to road-test biodiesel produced as part of the school's Feedstock to Tailpipe initiative. According to Susan Stagg-Williams, associate professor in the chemical and petroleum engineering department at the University of Kansas, the initiative includes converting recycled waste cooking oil and methanol from the campus into B20, which will be used to power all of the university's vehicles.READ MORE

Algae harvesting advances in New Mexico

The Center of Excellence for Hazardous Material Management in Carlsbad, N.M., has successfully performed a commercial-sized harvesting experiment at its pilot-scale algae pond. The algae was extracted from 12,000 gallons of water, approximately half the contents of the pond, and its oil content was used to produce biodiesel.READ MORE

NABD provides funding for Texas biodiesel project

Global Alternative Fuels LLC recently announced a $20 million loan agreement with North American Development Bank to fund a biodiesel plant in El Paso, Texas. The $26.6 million project will be completed in two phases. Phase one will consist of building a 5 MMgy biodiesel plant. During the second phase, the existing facility's capacity will expand to 25 MMgy.READ MORE

WASDE: Soybean price increases

In the July 11 World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimate report, the UDSA said the price for soybeans and soybean products increased this month. The U.S. season average price for 2008-'09 is projected to be $12 to $13.50 per bushel, up $1 on each end of the range.READ MORE
