Renewable jet fuel receives "Popular Science" Best of What's New award

Renewable jet fuel developed by the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) at the University of North Dakota and the U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has won the Best of What's New Award from Popular Science Magazine in the aviation and space category. The awards are announced in the December issue of Popular Science, which is on stands now.READ MORE

NBB pushes 5-year biodiesel tax extension, House version introduced

During visits with lawmakers, biodiesel industry leaders expressed strong support for S. 1589, the Biodiesel Tax Incentive Reform and Extension of Act, introduced by Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Charles Grassley (R-IA), and H.R. 4070, companion legislation introduced yesterday by Representatives Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) and John Shimkus (R-IL). This legislation would reform the biodiesel tax incentive by changing the current blenders excise tax credit to a production excise tax credit.READ MORE CRFS 2009

US Foodservice switches to B5 in Atlanta

The third division at U.S. Foodservice is now running on biodiesel blends. The Atlanta division's 185 tractors began using biodiesel fuel early in November following the first 7,500-gallon delivery of B5. In addition to using biodiesel blends in the tractors, the fuel will power the four-cylinder, Thermo King Engines in its 210 refrigerated trailers.READ MORE

Dexter Biodiesel Solutions offers Cold Clear demo

Schroeder Biofuels sells its Cold Clear filtration system-meant to lower the biodiesel cold soak number-through a network of distributors of which Houston's Dexter Biodiesel Solutions is the largest. "I have eight to 10 units already that I've sold and are operating in the field," said Nathan DeMartino of DBS. "You can't go to any other distributors or even Schroeder for a demo unit."READ MORE

Hammonds offers new microbicide additive for marine applications

Houston-based engineers and biodiesel blenders The Hammonds Companies markets the Biobor line of fuel additives and has several new products making their debut this month. Specifically, Biobor MD promises to enhance fuel performance and economy, aid in lubricity, which is extremely critical with the use of low sulfur diesel, clean up the engine by reducing sludge build up and prevent gelling of the fuel.READ MORE

Gen-X to rebuild at Richland, Wash.

Gen-X Energy Group Inc. has plans to rebuild its biodiesel plant and expand production 15 miles away at Richland, Wash., after its two-year-old plant at Burbank, Wash., was destroyed in a July fire.READ MORE

Mass. biodiesel mandate moving ahead despite uncertainties

The Massachusetts biodiesel mandate, which has been criticized for allowing only waste-derived biodiesel to qualify, is moving forward despite what the Massachusetts Oilheat Council called in it's Nov. 13 newsletter a "spell of relative silence" surrounding the mandate.READ MORE
