Consumers to find more availability of biodiesel blends

Agriculture officials in Minnesota and South Dakota are applauding a decision by a petroleum distribution company to increase the availability of winter biodiesel in their states. KLM tests bio-jet fuel with passengers on board

Dutch airline KLM took the lastest step within the aviation industry towards using biofuel blends with a Nov. 23 test flight. A first for Europe, and the first with a select group of passengers on board, the Boeing 747 used a 50 percent biofuel blend and 50 percent traditional kerosene in one engine.READ MORE

Normalab updating FBT device to include cold soak

France's Normalab Analis company is currently working "to enhance the ASTM D2068 device to integrate a cold soak filter blocking tendency coefficient" for various types of petrochemical products, including biodiesel, Nicolas Barbay, research and development engineer for Normalab, told Biodiesel Magazine. "We are designing this new machine that is quite new in the petrochemical industry," he said.READ MORE

Petrobras buys stake in new biodiesel plant in Brazil

Brazil's state-run Petrobras Biofuels acquired a 50 percent stake for $32 million in a BSBIOS SA plant in the state of Parana that is expected to begin commercial operations in the second quarter of 2010. The new plant has an installed capacity of 120 MMly (about 30 MMgy).READ MORE

Industry urged to change the conversation on biofuels

The biofuels industry is at the point where the Internet was in 1992, Riggs Eckelberry, CEO of OriginOil Inc. said in his remarks at the Next Generation Biofuels Feedstocks USA conference in San Francisco, Nov. 16-17. Not quite 20 years ago, the Internet was a "slow and painful academic system", Eckelberry said, until the first Netscape browser was launched in 1994 that introduced a new way of looking at computing-computers to communicate and not just compute.
