BlueFire in phase II of DOE loan guarantee

California-based BlueFire Ethanol Fuels Inc., which recently announced a name change to BlueFire Renewables Inc., has advanced to phase II of the U.S. DOE's loan guarantee program with its application for a Fulton, Miss., cellulosic ethanol plant.

BlueFire has requested $250 million, which would be combined with a previously-awarded $88 million grant and other resources for the facility's construction and launch, according to BlueFire. The company said it is actively recruiting specialists to close the transaction. The facility will produce 19 MMgy of cellulosic ethanol from woody biomass, mill residue and other cellulosic waste.

The company's name was changed to more clearly illustrate its various renewable energy capabilities.
