EIA updates short-term bioenergy forecasts in August STEO

The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released the August edition of its Short-Term Energy Outlook, predicting electricity generation from renewable energy sources will reach 1.857 million MWh per day this year, falling to 1.836 MWh per day next year.

Electricity generation from wood biomass is expected to reach 113,000 MWh per day this year, falling slightly to 112,000 MWh per next year. Generation from was biomass is expected to reach 59,000 MWh per in 2017, increasing to 60,000 MWh per day in 2018.

The electric power sector is expected to consume 0.282 quadrillion Btu (quad) of waste biomass this year, increasing to 0.288 quad next year. The second is also expected to consume 0.236 quad of wood biomass this year, falling to 0.226 quad next year.

The industrial sector is expected to consume 0.196 quad of waste biomass in 2017, falling to 0.193 quad in 2018. Consumption of wood biomass in the sector is also expected to fall, from 1.257 quad this year to 1.236 quad next year.

In the commercial sector, consumption of waste biomass is expected to reach 0.047 quad in both 2017 and 2018. Consumption of wood biomass, however, is expected to increase slightly, from 0.076 quad this year to 0.077 quad next year.

The residential sector is currently expected to consume 0.388 quad of wood biomass this year, increasing to 0.413 quad next year.

Across all sectors, consumption of waste biomass is expected to reach 0.527 quad in 2017, increasing to 0.528 quad in 2018. Wood biomass consumption is expected to reach 1.957 quad in 2017, falling to 1.952 quad in 2018.
