FoodPriceTruth.org has prepared a menu of popular Independence Day foods - and facts on why the cost for those items has increased.

According to the organization, the menu was prepared in response to recent accusations and attempts made by campaigns to "smear" biofuels. Brooke Coleman, executive director of the New Fuels Alliance, said the biggest reason food prices have greatly increased is high gas prices. "After all, the typical item at the grocery store traveled 1,500 miles just to get there," Coleman said. "Anyone who has been to the gas pump lately knows that shipping something 1,500 miles is going to make that item cost more."

FoodPriceTruth.org, which was recently introduced to the public, says their goal is to set the record straight by discussing food prices in real terms. The organization said blaming biofuels for food prices is deceptive, and while ethanol has impacted corn prices minimally, the USDA and the White House Council of Economic Advisors have stated that increased corn demand has only influenced "3 percent of the more than 40 percent increase we have seen in world food prices this year."

The menu includes chicken, pork, beer, potato salad, fruit salad and plastic cutlery. Each food is listed with a reason for a price increase, and sites official sources from where the information was obtained. To view the menu, visit http://www.foodpricetruth.org/pdf/menu.pdf.

The organization insists that rocketing oil prices are to blame. "Don't let anyone tell you that your food prices are so high because of biofuels," said Coleman.
