Renew Energy Resources Inc. has begun the preliminary permitting process for a 5 MMgy biodiesel production facility in New York City which will be operated by its subsidiary, Legacy Oil LLC. The project is expected to be complete and operational by mid-2009.

RTP Environmental Associates Inc. has been contracted by Renew to handle permitting for the plant. RTP is an environmental consulting company that specializes in permit application preparation, among other services.

The Legacy Oil facility will use waste vegetable oil as its primary feedstock. Waste oil will be collected from New York City restaurants by RWA Resource Recovery, a social enterprise of The Doe Fund, which was established to create jobs for formerly homeless individuals who are re-entering the job market.
